Stairway From Hell

Stairway From Hell

After much too long a wait, “Pagasa,” a documentary I edited last year is finally getting its premier.

The film, now titled “Stairway from Hell” makes its debut at the 2010 Cincinnati film festival where it will show on Saturday October 9th at 11:00 am and Sunday October 10th at 9:15 pm. The Cincinnati film fest is a small but prestigious festival, accepting only 20 feature films each year. Last year, every accepted film got a distribution deal, and the festival was in the list of the “Top 25 Film Festivals worth the entrance fee” by Movie Maker Magazine.

Directed by Christian Bunz, the film tell the story of a Filipino school that is working to end poverty through education. Their program finds children living in the worst conditions imaginable, and gives them a free education, including room, board and vocational instruction. These children are then able to get jobs and lift their entire families out of destitution. By educating one child the school lifts a dozen people out of poverty who in turn work to educate and help their neighbors. In essence they stop a cycle of poverty and start a cycle of sustainability.
